Gluten-free freezer meals are helpful and convenient to make any day of the week. By preparing these meals ahead of time and cooking them later, you can save time and money! The best frozen meal prep can easily be done all at once and be ready for later. This takes the hassle out of planning and cooking dinner every day. And if you do enjoy cooking, you can have fun making your favorite meals on your own time.
Gluten-Free Freezer Meals
If you’re interested in making gluten-free freezer meals, it’s easy to get started with tasty recipes. Gluten-free freezer meals are simply gluten-free meals that are prepared ahead of time and frozen: You can chop all your vegetables and measure ingredients so that when you’re ready, all you have to do is cook them. Many people choose to reduce their gluten intake for health or nutritious reasons. But these recipes are tasty enough for anyone to crave!
Even if you don’t eat gluten-free, you might still have some favorite recipes that happen to be gluten-free. Chips and salsa, cobb salad, and fried rice are examples of some popular dishes that just happen to be gluten-free. And other foods like pasta bakes can be enjoyed with swaps like chickpea pasta or brown rice pasta.
What Is A Gluten-Free Diet?
A gluten-free diet is simply a way of eating that refrains from gluten in all foods. Gluten is found in many ingredients and foods with wheat and some other grains. That means flour and many of the foods made of flour contain gluten: Like bread, flour tortillas, pasta, crackers, and even beer. Some people may avoid gluten because of celiac disease or other gluten intolerances. Or maybe they just prefer gluten-free foods. Whatever the reason, it’s easy to follow a gluten-free diet with the help of a variety of tasty recipes. And gluten-free freezer meals are specially helpful whenever you need a quick meal!
If you’d like to avoid consuming gluten, watch out for some of these ingredients containing gluten in processed foods and recipes:
- Soy sauce
In general, it’s a good idea to opt for homemade and minimally processed foods when you can. They’re more nutritious and healthy. And if you’re avoiding gluten, you can make sure every ingredient you eat is gluten-free.
Freezable meals make meal prep easy and last for several weeks or even months. Rather than prepping meals in the fridge to cook throughout one week, freezer meals can be prepared a couple of weeks ahead of time. Freezing perishable ingredients essentially pauses the spoiling process and keeps them fresh for much longer than in the refrigerator. You can plan to prepare and set up several meals at once, like on a Sunday, and eat whatever meals sound good to you throughout the week and month: You don’t have to worry about these meals spoiling within a couple of days when they’re stored in the freezer!
Some popular freezable meals contain gluten, but there are several without or that can be made gluten-free with one or two simple swaps. Gluten-Free Food Swaps
While eating gluten-free is easily tasty and simple, some swaps can be helpful for foods that usually contain gluten. Basics like bread, pasta, and baked goods are plentiful, but can easily be swapped for a gluten-free option. And as it becomes more popular, more food brands and restaurants are offering gluten-free alternatives. For a gluten-free swap that is also low-carb, try using lettuce or collard greens for wraps instead of tortillas and sandwich bread. Another low-carb option can be zucchini noodles instead of noodles made from flour. In general, try some of these gluten-free food swaps in regular recipes:
- Rice noodles, brown rice pasta, and chickpea pasta
- Gluten-free flour for homemade baked goods
- Almond flour instead of breadcrumbs in meatballs
- Store-bought gluten-free bread and rolls for sandwiches and burgers
- Corn tortillas instead of flour tortillas
- Popcorn rather than crackers
- Coconut aminos instead of soy sauce
Swaps like these make it easy to eat your favorite foods as a gluten-free version. It’s also simple to customize your meals for multiple people with different dietary needs: Burger night can include meat patties, veggie burgers, regular buns, and gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps for a variety of preferences.
